Episode 5 | AirBnB vs. Hotels: Which Should You Choose for Your Next Vacation?
Travel is back! The CDC has recently given the green light for fully vaccinated individuals to safely travel and everyone is ready to get back outside and hit the streets after being stuck at home all 2020.
Planning for spring and summer travel is in full swing and accommodations are at the top of the list. There is a lot I like about AirBnB’s over hotels so I wanted to record this podcast episode to share the pros and cons of AirBnB versus hotels to hopefully help you find the right place for your next vacation.
Show Notes:
[01:39] Recently TSA recorded the highest number of travelers since the pandemic started. The CDC gave the green light for fully vaccinated individuals to safely travel with some restrictions.
[02:01] If you are fully vaccinated you don’t have to quarantine upon return from any trip that you take and you don’t have to be tested prior to going on a trip.
[03:42] There are a wide range of costs with both AirBnB and hotels because there are high-end and budget options with both.
[04:16] There are ways to be cost effective with both AirBnB and hotels. Hotels usually run specials, but you want to build loyalty and status with one hotel partner. In the long run you will get all kinds of savings by building loyalties.
[05:40] Many credit card programs give you hotel points.
[06:17] AirBnB can be more cost effective for group and couples trips since you are splitting the cost.
[07:33] AirBnB has cheaper options if you are traveling solo or with one other person.
[08:23] You want to watch out for additional costs that are associated with AirBnB like cleaning fees, late check out fees, and other surcharges.
[10:11] Overall there is a lot of flexibility choosing an AirBnB, but there are a few drawbacks. You don’t have room service or take out, but you can cook your own meals.
[12:01] An AirBnB allows you to have more privacy. If you choose to pick an AirBnb to yourself, you truly get to have a private travel experience. Some travelers have some concerns with privacy.
[14:01] Hotels have more flexibility with early check-in or room upgrades.
[15:36] AirBnB is not as flexible with cancellations. There are strict cancellation policies. Most hotels you cancel up to 24 hours before your visit.
[16:37] Overall, AirBnB lends themselves to locations that give you a more authentic experience.
[17:51] The big difference in hotels and AirBnB are room service and concierge services. Room service and housekeeping are big convenience factors for a hotel.
[19:34] Some conveniences are available at a hotel and not at an AirBnB.
[20:54] What has been your experience traveling in AirBnB’s? What do you love about AirBnBs or do you love hotels?
