Episode 15 | 5 Tips for Slaying Your Self-Care Routine

I am excited to be back with another solo episode and more guest interviews will be coming soon. There has been a lot that I wanted to connect with you about so you get to enjoy a few solo episodes back to back from me.

Today’s episode is all about self-care. As we are entering the fall season, so many are dealing with seasonal depression, work burn out, and slowly returning to the office while some of us are still working from home. Most people are just really over the pandemic and we are all feeling fatigued, so it is important for us to step up our self-care routine.

Show Notes:
[02:31] Self-care should not just be one day of the week.
[03:03] You are your number one priority. You can not pour into others if you have not filled your cup up.
[03:35] The number one way that I slay my self-care routine is by exercising. Outdoor walks are a great form of exercise.
[05:21] Yoga is another great form of exercise. Yoga can improve flexibility, range of motion, and just what you need to keep your muscles improving.
[07:20] With exercise, you can start small. I use the Peloton, Nike Training Club, and NEOU apps. Grow With Jo on YouTube has great 20-minute training.
[09:47] Another way I slay my self-care routine is by really taking time for more bubble baths.
[10:39] Bubble bath product recommendations: Dr. Teal’s Soothe and Sleep Foaming Bubble Bath and Salts, Posh Candles and incense.
[12:57] Another way to uplevel your self-care routine is to do staycations. You don’t have to go far to really have an experience and unplug. Staycations give you permission to do nothing.
[16:01]If you are already a loyalty member of a hotel chain you can probably find something local that isn’t a lot of points to use. The Hotel Tonight and Hotwire apps are a good place to look for last-minute bookings.
[17:31] The fourth way to uplevel your self-care routine is to take a social media break. Social media breaks are so important. Studies have shown that social media has a huge psychological impact on us and not always a positive one.
[19:40] Don’t be afraid to unplug from social media. You can just take the app off your phone. People take breaks in many different ways.
[20:26] It is important to curate your social media feed.
[21:27] Favorite Instagram Accounts to Follow: @j_ivory, @the.holistic.psychologist, @nedratawwab, @todayspositivethought
[22:43] You could also choose to post less.
[25:12] One of the best ways to slay your self-care is to go to therapy.
[26:04] Therapy is so instrumental and helpful when dealing with life. This life is going to present all types of challenges, obstacles, and situations that just sometimes need a third party to help you navigate.
[27:11] Therapy is something that you should definitely incorporate into your self-care routine and we need to normalize therapy.
[28:04] I want to hear from you! What do you do to practice self-care? How has it become more important to you in these trying times?
